This Sunday I want to invite you to be part of a very special experience at Summit!
During the 40 days of our Red Letter Challenge journey, we’ve challenged each other to listen to the words of Jesus and put them into practice (Matthew 7:24).
Jesus told us to love and serve those who are poor, which is why this weekend we are going to help make a tangible (and immediate) difference for kids in our community who often go hungry over the weekend or school breaks.
At the end of worship, we will invite adults, kids and students to put together food packs in the lobby. They will be delivered to a local school district where they will be sent home with at-risk kids on Friday, March 8th (to help get them through spring break the following week).
OUR GOAL: To pack “Spring Break Snack Packs” to help kids through the spring break week–and put together as many weekend packs as we can to help our local resource center and schools assist students in the coming months.
HOW CAN I HELP? Bring some food supplies with you to church on Sunday and stay afterward to help pack 100’s of Snack Packs. Here is the list of items requested by the local resource center we are working with:
- Canned soup or pasta, chili or meat (tuna/chicken)
- Mac & cheese, fruit cups, cheese & cracker packs
- Breakfast bars, oatmeal packs, pop tarts
- Individual chips, cookies, other treats
- Juice boxes
We’ll end worship a few minutes early, so you could also make a quick run to the store to buy supplies and bring them back to pack more food kits. But if you want to shop in advance, click here for a printable shopping list!
It may be hard to imagine, but for some kids the only meal they get most days are their school lunches…
School counselors in three local schools have identified kids who are particularly in need (for a variety of different family reasons). Your help will make a difference!
The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:40)
Thanks for all you to to put your faith into action. It’s going to be a fun Sunday as we rally together to help impact the lives of kids right here in the West Valley!
