We just can’t wait to tell you……
Some news is so momentous that we just can’t wait to share it! When you are ready to exclaim, “We’re getting married!” – “I got the deal” – “They hired me!” – “They accepted our offer!” – “We’re going to have a baby!” (Or, in my case, “We’re going to have two babies!”), it’s news that has to be shared! These are the events that genuinely change our lives and shape our futures.
When Cleopas and his friend realized that they had just enjoyed dinner with Jesus, they simply had to tell someone. It was almost dark, the day was nearly finished, but they strapped on their sandals and started walking back to Jerusalem to share the news with everybody: Jesus is alive!
It changed their lives. It shaped their future. It confirmed their eternity.
It’s done all that for us too. How might this good news of new life move you today? How will you use your resurrection power?
Likewise, we also have exciting news that we just can’t wait to tell you.
So, without further ado (drum roll please)….
Amazing things are happening in our youth ministry – including a new service!
- An average of 48 students worshipped in APEX (our youth service) during the 2014-2015 school year.
- Over the summer that number grew to 62!
- Since the beginning of this school year the average has grown to 96 students each Sunday!! (Despite the fact the Apex room holds only about 100 people.)
And, the blessing of this growth isn’t only evident on Sunday mornings!
- This past spring, 14 middle school students and 7 high school students were in growth groups.
- This fall the number totals 44 so far!
So, we are investing in our youth in a big way:
Beginning Sunday, October 18th we will offer two, unique APEX services.
- At the 9:00 hour we will offer APEX 678 – for our Middle School students.
- At the 10:45 hour we will offer APEX – for our Senior High students.
Both of these services will feature live music and will include Communion on 1 st and 3 rd Sundays. They will have biblically based large group teaching, and small group discussion. The content will be developmentally tailored to the specific age range in the service. This will give us the opportunity to pour into middle schoolers on topics of concern and interest to them – while not shooting over their heads. Likewise, we’ll be able to discuss high-school appropriate issues, without the younger students in the environment.
In addition to increasing effectiveness, this change doubles our Sunday morning youth capacity in an efficient way – providing room for growth.
We know that this means some change for current family patterns, and, perhaps, some inconvenience. However, it also opens up many new serving opportunities for both adults and students. If you are currently involved in these ministries you will hear from Mike and Jamie in the coming days with additional information, and adjustments we’ll be making in our volunteer scheduling. If you have questions, please be in touch with your ministry leader or give me a call.
I am thankful every day for the opportunity to serve with you at Summit – a church that is unafraid to do what it takes to advance the kingdom, and reach the world for Jesus – one life at a time.
I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.
Thanks and blessings,
