8/27/15 – Have Fun!

Our Summit family is having a bash – a Baptism Bash this Sunday between services!

Baptism is not just some optional church ritual, or party to be delayed or postponed while you ponder its significance. Jesus commanded baptism, and through baptism extends God’s grace to all people – young and old. He wants all of us to share in his victory over death and the new life he won for us on the cross. Baptism washes away our sin, and fills us with the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 2:38-41, Romans 6:4)

Baptism publicly signifies your inclusion in God’s family. Just as Jesus’ baptism by John announced that Jesus was the Messiah and “the beloved” – baptism says to the world that I’m not ashamed to be part of God’s family.

Why is baptism so important? Because it shares Christ’s burial and resurrection, and it confirms your death to your old life, and the promise of your new life in Christ. Baptism isn’t merely your profession of faith – it’s God’s profession of faithfulness. Your baptism gives witness to that spiritual truth! It encompasses all of your life. The party is a celebration of your inclusion in God’s family!

The Bible says, “Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.” (Hebrews 2:11 NIV)

Let that amazing truth sink in! You are God’s beloved. With you God is pleased. God is proud of you.

Join us this weekend and invite a friend as our “From This Day Forward” marriage series continues. This Sunday is about how God blesses people who decide to Have Fun, and I’m not going to miss an opportunity to have a little fun with y’all. Even with a brief look into the Song of Songs, it’s a G-Rated message, and if things get out of hand – well, Officer Ryan is on standby. Since it comes from God’s Word, I sincerely believe that the Guidance for Guys and the Wisdom for Women that we’ll share has the potential to restore vitality and renew relationships.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Thanks and blessings,

Pastor Vince
