2/5/16 – We Cleared the Shelves! #SummitGives

That was fun!

93af5136-b516-4d38-84fb-342babfd2b59I hope you enjoyed our Clear the Shelves event last Sunday, and have enjoyed sharing about it in Growth Group this week.

I’m delighted that by God’s grace, and through the generosity of his people, roughly 20,000 meals will be served to homeless people in Phoenix, and hundreds will also receive hygiene products, and other essentials that most of us take for granted. Despite ordering extra inventory, and the best efforts of the fast and friendly Basha’s team, we Cleared the Shelves! One participant told me, “This is great! THIS is CHURCH!” That’s true – and Pastor Nate and I were privileged to drive a whole extra truckload of generosity – way beyond expectations – to Phoenix Rescue Mission. Thank you!

If you weren’t able to be there, search social media for #SummitGives.

In Growth Group we were encouraged to memorize this verse: Jesus said, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38). God will bless generosity. Proverbs 11:25 says, “The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.”

b999fa3a-99f7-4085-8fe3-95f3340688d9As we give, God will bless us. As we distribute, God will give us more. Matthew 14:20 offers this detail about the Feeding of the Five Thousand: “So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained.”

Jesus gave them more than they needed – way beyond expectations. And this reminds us that we serve a generous God.

Are you willing to pass on what God has given you? Or, are you trying to hold on to it all? As the disciples distributed the food that God had multiplied, everyone was blessed. Everyone had their part. God gives us gifts. Our job is to use them for His glory.

Thanks and blessings,

Pastor Vince
